General Update – May 2015

God is continuing to Bless MEI and the Helene community in the many projects and community development activities as highlighted below

Start of the Helene Christian English School year with a record attendance of 107 children, up from 77 last year.

With the assistance of the Centerpointe Church Short Term Mission (STM) team, the much needed new classroom started in March, was moved closer to completion with the sheetrock and painting of the walls. In addition, twenty-six student desks were built.

With financial support from a generous grant and a lot of hard work from many, our newly acquired and refurbished boat is now completed and in service. Its first use was to bring over more than 450 sacks of cement for the new basketball court.

The new basketball court is a joint project with the Helene Progressive Movement (the local city government), Abundant Life Foundation and Mission Encounters. All working together to make Helene a great place to live.

Also with financial support from the above mentioned grant, all the batteries used for the MEI in-house generator based power supply were replaced with improved and larger batteries. With these new batteries now in place, there is less need to run the diesel generator, reducing MEI’s annual fuel expenses.
Many more projects are underway and planed for the coming year, including many in joint partnership with the Helene Progressive Movement.

Jesus has been the answer to the cry of our hearts for Helene. You have played a large part in what God has accomplished. We now see through all the suffering and heart aches of Helene. Jesus is bringing a true spirit of rejoicing to the people
