Life on Helene in Pictures

Below are galleries of the various aspects of life on the island of Helene. Take a look at the island, the people, the school and our work as we serve the Lord and his people in Honduras.

The Island

Life around Helene can be both beautiful and harsh. The exotic splendor of the Caribbean can be seen every day in the sea, sky and island, but the poverty and struggles of its inhabitants reminds us that it is still a fallen world.

The People

The amazing people of Helene live a difficult life, mostly due to few job opportunities and little hope for financial development. However, their strong sense of community keeps them working together for their collective survival.

The School

Though Spanish is the official language of Honduras, the native language on Helene has been English for hundreds of years. With government approval, our school helps them work on their English education as well as providing us an opportunity to live out the gospel with them every day.

The Work

At MEI, we work with the locals on Helene every day to share the gospel and help improve their lives and community, through Discipleship groups, leadership training, educating their children, providing clean drinking water, construction projects and more.
