MEI Impact Report – 2016

Dear Friends in Christ,

What a year this has been for Mission Encounters International (MEI) and our growth. Let me first take this time to thank you for your continued prayers and support with God’s plans for the people we serve and the individuals who are transformed when they visit and serve during Short-Term missions trips. It is such a joy for our MEI team to witness God’s unfolding plans.

Some of our key accomplishments for this year include:

Helene Ministries:

MEI has continued to provide clean drinking water for another year, our 16th consecutive year.

Our Christian English School (HCES), now in it’s 13th year, had a another record attendance, with 111 students completing the year. In comparison, last year 105 students attended. Also, with your generous giving, we have currently reached 60% of our 2016 funding needs.

We provided a full range of medical services for another year and have been blessed with a partnership with the city for regular visits by a Honduran doctor and dentist.

We continue to grow and improve our partner organization relationships. Some of the partnerships initiated this year include: Harvest Foundation, Revolution Church, and Rotary Club of Grande Praire Sunrise.

Working with the Helene Progressive Movement, Santos Guardiolas, and one of our partner organizations, land and funds were acquired to build a concrete community dock, the first on the island. The construction began in May and is slated for completion in March, 2017. This construction project and the resulting dock, are bringing much needed employment opportunities for now and the future.

In partnership with Patronato, the Helene city council, establishment of an island-wide trash collection program.

Partnering with the Helene Progressive Movement and obtainment of grant funds, started construction of a new island kindergarten building, along with an adjoining community Vocational Training Center.

We were blessed and reinvigorated by seven Short-Term Mission teams, representing over 90 serving individuals, ranging from ages 12 to 73. These teams brought a transforming energy to the Helene Community and MEI Team. In addition, the following projects were completed; trash collection, built school desks, construction of a new kindergarten classroom, started construction of a Vocational Training Center, visitations in the community, market day (locals’ selling their handmade crafts), medical outreaches, and much more.

Brittany McFadden completed over three and a half years of invaluable service to the community of Helene in many ministry areas, with her primary focus of providing a wide range of medical services. Brittany recently returned to her home town of Phoenix to start seminary with a passion for the global church.

Mainland Ministries:

Kris and Carlene Wagner completed the MEI Discipleship Encounter program.

The Wagners served sixty days on site in Helene with Larry, Sheila and Brittany. Please read their testimonies about their Discipleship Encounters.

Expanded the MEI serving field, with Kris and Carlene Wagner serving at an English immersion school on the Honduras mainland in the city of Puerto Cortez.

We look forward to 2017 and all the plans God has in store for the Helene community, our visiting short-term team encounters, MEI team, partners, and supporters.

Thank you again for your continued prayers and support, especially considering your tax-deductible donations, as we need to replenish our funds to complete the 2016 projects and prepare for stewardship of our 2017 ministries.

Please make your 2016 tax-deductible gift to the MEI ministry(ies) as your heart leads. Our three primary ministry funding needs are:

Medical Missions
Christian English School
Where Most Needed -Funds for meeting our most urgent ministry needs.

Thank you for your prayers and support.

In His service,

Larry Benson, Executive Director, MEI
